This is a brand new CPP brand 55 56 57 Chevy car rear shock crossmember kit. This kit is designed to fit both original frame types (seamed and seamless). This kit is for Hardtop, Sedan and Convertible models but we have modified it to fit Nomad and station wagons (see below).
Hardtop, Sedan and Convertible owners:
Take at look at the frame brackets. The brackets that mount to the frame are designed to be set on top of the frame which means that you will not be able to use the top bolt holes unless the body is off the car. This design allows the crossmember to be installed with one person and will allow you to locate it and then drill the side holes or weld it in place all while the crossmember is self supported.
Nomad and Station Wagon owners:
You can use this crossmember kit but you need to cut the top portion of the brackets off so you can lower the crossmember down on the frame rails and it will require 2 people to hold it in place or C-clamps to hold the brackets for mock-up, bolting or welding. We tested this new crossmember on a 57 Nomad and found the crossmember hit the floor when mocking it up. Minor fabrication skills are required.
